can I adjust the steering tension on my Storm?

0

Hi Ozone,

Can I adjust the steering tension on my Storm?  I want the pedals to be just a little less responsive, so that when I start losing focus in  the back half of a race, the boat is tracking where I left the pedals last.

Kind regards

Hi there Tim,

I think I can relate to loosing focus halfway through the race 😉

Good idea, let me check with the canoe designer, Mike Giblin.

I will get back to you ASAP.

Aloha!

You can adjust the angle of the pedals, but not the sensitivity of them. The angle can be changed by adjusting the location of the figure eight knot behind the pedal.

The sensitivity of the steering is determined by the diameter of the tiller disk on top of the rudder, and the distance from the hinge pin to the attachment point of the cable on the foot pedal.

You could add a bungee cord from the front deck pad tiedowns to each of the foot pedals. If you tension them properly the rudder will return to center, but as the bungees age you will need to readjust them.

Hope that helps.
